What is Lined Paper?

Lined paper (also known as ruled paper) is simply a piece of paper with evenly spaced horizontal lines printed or drawn on it. As simple as it may sound, you can find a wide variety of lined paper in the market.

Most common lined papers or ruled papers come in the form of white paper with fine horizontal lines. The lines are mostly black or blue lines, but you can also find some in other different colors and in dotted line. Some even come with a red vertical line on the side.

Lined paper is often used in schools, colleges, kindergartens and also by professionals for formal write-ups. The lines serve as a guide to write and are perfect to practice handwriting among elementary school children. Lined papers are also great for practicing cursive writing.

Here are the factors you need to consider in choosing the free printables (paper templates):

Different line heights

  • The wider the space between each line , the lesser lines you will get on your paper and the narrower the lines, the more lines you will get, which means you can write more on a single piece of paper.
  • Wide ruled or lined papers are best for children who tend to write in bigger font sizes as compared to college students and adults. Having said that, wide lined papers are also suitable for people with generally large handwriting, vice versa.

Paper sizes

  • The free printable paper templates I have on this page are for standard A4 sized sheets of paper.

Color of the lines and style

  • Most of the templates on this page come with black lines. I also have some templates in blue lines.
  • Some templates come in fine solid lines, while others are drawn in dotted lines and a combination of both.

Types of Lined Paper

Wide lined paper ( wide-ruled paper or legal paper) - these are templates with lines that are 8.7mm apart. In a typical A4 sized paper, you will get approximately 28 lines on a each sheet of paper.

Medium lined paper (medium-ruled paper or College paper) - these are templates with lines that are approximately 7.1mm wide. In a typical A4 sized paper, you will get 37 number of lines on each sheet of paper.

Narrow lined paper (narrow-ruled paper) - these are templates with the most number of horizontal lines. Each line is 6.35mm apart and there are a total of 53 lines on each sheet of paper.

Manuscript paper - There are 2 different types of manuscript paper. The first type is a writing template with groups of 3 lines known as penmanship paper. In this type of manuscript paper, the middle line of each of the group of 3 lines is in dotted form while the remaining top and bottom lines are in straight lines. This paper is perfect for children to practice handwriting. The other type of manuscript paper comes in groups of 5 lines . Also known as music paper, this type of manuscript paper is typically used to draw or write musical notes.

How to choose the free paper printables

As provided above, the printable lined paper templates I have on this page vary by line height, line type and line color and designs. In choosing the templates for printing, make sure you choose the type of template with the correct line height. You can even use glass beads, wood beads, plastic beads, crystal beads or other decorative beads. All these will make perfect beads for these earrings.

Just remember to cut off the excess wire so that your loop at the end of the dangle is not too big.

Pretty Faux Leather Earrings - An Easy Project on How to Make Your Own Earrings

Options

Here are some of the different options in making these earrings project:

Leather type and color

  • I used faux leather to make these leather earrings. You can always use genuine leather if you like.
  • And I chose to combine grey and yellow to make my leather earrings. These colors can easily be customized to the variety of colors that you like.

Earrings shape

  • I choose to make my earrings in teardrop shape. If you are not a fan of teardrop shape or wish to try out other different shapes, you can always do that. You can choose to cut your leather into circles, squares, rectangles and even diamond shapes.

Metal color

  • I made my faux leather earrings in bronze metal. This means that the earring hooks, the jump rings and the head pins are all in bronze.
  • If you like to make your leather earrings in gold, simply replace all the metal color to gold ones. Likewise if you prefer silver metal.

Beads size and color

  • For the size of these earrings, the dangles are best made with small beads like seed beads. If you like, you can replace seed beads with other similar sized beads such as pearl beads, or even crystal beads.
  • As for the color, these are totally customizable. Choose the colors you like to make your leather earrings.

And that's pretty much my earring tutorial how to make leather earrings with faux leather and seed beads.

Learn how to make origami fish with this easy origami fish paper craft idea. With simple art of paper folding technique and just a single piece of square paper, make a very cute paper fish in less than 5 minutes!

3 origami fish.
How to Make Origami Fish - Easy Tutorial.

This easy origami fish is made using a single sheet of square craft paper and can be very quickly folded even by those without any origami skills. I used pre-cut origami paper measuring 15cm by 15cm. The paper is double sided, with pretty floral pattern on one side and plain red background on the other side. Nevertheless, depending on which side of the paper you choose for your fish, only one side will show on the finished origami fish.

The finished origami fish measures 15cm long and 10.5cm wide.

You can make this paper fish as a simple paper folding craft session with your children. You can also use this origami fish to decorate a handmade greeting card (by making the fish is a smaller piece of square paper and sticking it to the front of the card), or make pretty wall deco (by using blue tac to stick it to the wall). Make a school of paper fish and decorate your kid's room!

Making the folds

A poster 4 images showing how to fold a paper.

Place the paper on a flat workspace. The front section has floral design. The back section in plain maroon in color.

  1. First step is to fold the paper by bringing the opposite corners of the square sheet together. With the floral side facing up, fold the paper diagonally by bringing the bottom edge on the left to the top right corner. Make sure the corners are aligned. Unfold.
  2. Fold it diagonally again, this time by bringing the top right edge to the bottom left corner. Unfold.
  3. Turn the paper over. Fold it into 2 vertically. Unfold.
  4. Fold it into 2, horizontally. Unfold.

Forming a triangular tab for the body

Form a triangle as shown in the 4 steps below:

A poster of 4 images showing how to fold a triangle.
  1. Place the entire paper with the maroon side facing down on a flat surface. On the bottom half of the paper, fold along the diagonal lines formed earlier that run from both the bottom corner to the center of the paper into a triangle.
  2. As you do this, you will see that the top half of the paper also forming into a triangle.
  3. Press the paper along the folded lines to form a complete triangle.
  4. Lift the triangle and this is how it should look like.

  1. Unfold the section. You will see 3 folded lines.
  2. With that section of the triangle still unfolded, bring the bottom flap (opposite section of the triangle) to the first line as shown. This makes half of the tail fin.
  3. Press it down firmly.
  4. Next, refold the earlier unfolded section along the first folded line (also where the opposite section of the triangle folded in the step above ends).
  5. This is how it should look like.
  6. Turn the folded paper over.

Marking the eyes

Use a black marker to mark the eyes on a paper fish.
  1. To complete the paper fish, mark its eye in black marker.
  2. And this is how the completed fish should look like.

How to Make Origami Fish - Origami Fish Tutorial

Options

Paper size

  • The most important factor in making this fish craft is to make sure you use a perfectly square piece of paper. I used a medium sized 15 cm by 15 cm origami paper.
  • While I used pre-cut origami paper, you can always make these fishes in any other craft paper or color papers like blue paper or white paper or even colorful wrapping papers. All you need to make sure is to cut the paper into a perfect square.
  • To adjust the size of the completed fish, use correspondingly different sized square papers. A larger square will make a larger fish and a smaller square will make a smaller paper fish.

Color and patterns

  • If you use origami papers, you will notice that they are often sold with colors or patterns on both sides.
  • For this origami fish, suffice if the paper is colored or patterned only on one side. This is because, the completed paper fish will only show one color, while the other side will be completely hidden.

What can you do with the fish origami

Make it as a crafting activity with your children

  • This origami fish paper craft is a beginner origami project. It is also easy for children to make this craft. You can simply make this as a crafting activity with your children.

Use it to decorate a greeting card

  • The completed paper fish or fishes can be used to decorate a greeting card. Make the fish as per the tutorial above in vibrant colors.
  • Once completed, stick it onto a thick folded A4 sized paper. You can stick the fish right in front on even on the inside. Decorate it further with a border and complete the card with a handwritten message for a perfectly cute handmade greeting card.

Make it into a bookmark

Using a paper fish a corner bookmark.
Origami Fish Bookmark
  • This paper fish can also be turned into a bookmark.
  • Simply attach a string to the mouth and use it to mark the top edge of the pages your book.
  • Alternatively, you can also use this origami fish as a corner bookmark.
  • To use the paper fish as a bookmark, it is best made in a smaller size paper to ensure it can be used for both small and large books.

Make a school of paper fish in different sizes and decorate your kids' bedroom wall

  • The paper fish is also a creative idea to make pretty wall deco, especially for kids room.
  • Make the fishes with your child in different sizes and colors.
  • Find a wall spot in your child's room and attach them to wall with blue tack.

Handmade Pearl Earrings - A Pretty Pair of Pearl Earrings

Options

Pearls size and type

  • These handmade earrings are made using 3 round faux pearl beads measuring 1cm in diameter each. You can always use real pearls beads of a larger or smaller size. You can also choose your own colors.
  • I used champagne, pink and green. You can make your earrings in one color if you like or use any other color combination.
  • And if you are not a fan of faux beads, you can always replace the beads with freshwater pearls. Freshwater pearls are often smaller in size but would be a great option to make these handmade earrings, nevertheless.

Metal color

  • I used gold metal for these pair of pearl dangle earrings. If you are not a fan of gold, you can change the metal color to silver or bronze.
  • This would mean, whichever color you choose, all the earring hooks, wire, headpins and the bead caps need to be chosen in the same color you prefer.

Earring hook

  • I used a simple wire earring hook to make this earrings. You can change it to a lever back hoop, a stud earring post or a simple fish earring hook if you like.

Earrings length

  • The length of each of these earrings is 6cm. If you use smaller beads, the length be shorter and if you use larger pearls, the length will be longer.
  • In any case, you can also adjust the length of these pair of elegant handmade earrings by adding an extra or two beads to make longer earrings. And if you prefer shorter earrings, you can reduce the pearls from 3 to 2.

And that's my 5 steps, easy tutorial on how to make pearl earrings.

You can twist the jump ring open with your finger, but if you find it hard, hold the jump ring with the flat nose plier on one hand and the round nose plier on the other hand and twist them the opposite direction to open the jump ring. Options

Length of the chain

  • The length of the chain used will determine the length of your earrings. I choose to make really long earrings (the finished pearl earrings measure 8.5cm in length), but if you want them to be short, you can always use a shorter wire.

Type of the chain

  • I used link chain to make these pearl DIY dangle earrings. The links are large enough for me to easily insert the jump rings.
  • If you choose chain with smaller links, do take note to sure the links are large enough to enable the jump rings to be inserted into them.

The metal color

  • These handmade pearl earrings are made with gold colored metal. Hence the jump rings, the chains, the headpins and the earring hooks are all in gold.
  • If you wish to make these white freshwater pearl earrings in silver or bronze metal, replace accordingly with those colors.

Size and color of the pearls

  • You can always you round pearls, and can also adjust the size of the pearls used. If you like larger ones or smaller ones, simply change accordingly.
  • I used white pearls, and you can replace with any other colors you like.

Count of the pearls

  • Each pearl dangle in these DIY dangle earrings consists of 3 pearl beads. you can also choose to increase the number of pearls in each dangle or reduce them to just 2 or 1.
  • Any changes to the number of pearls used will have an impact on the length of the earrings.

Pearls type

  • I used freshwater pearls, but you can always replace with faux pearl beads to make these long earrings. You can also use any other types of beads to make these DIY dangle earrings.

Earring hook

  • I used simple wire hooks, and you can always change the hook to a lever back hoop or studs or any other types of earring hooks you like.

These blue pearl earrings DIY are made with fresh water blue pearl beads. The earrings consist of 2 blue pearls on each side, and are held together with a gold headpin. The beads are alternated with tiny gold beads and attached to a small gold lever back earring hoop.

The finished earrings measure 4cm long. The pearl beads are approximately 0.6cm wide while the lever back hoops are 1cm in diameter. These easy lever back pearl earrings are not only easy to make, they are absolutely pretty and make perfect earrings for wedding and bridal wear.

How to Make the Blue Pearl Earrings DIY

Video Tutorial

Here's my quick video on how to make these pearl drop earrings. Get the full list of supplies and step by step tutorial right below this section:

Supplies

4 blue pearls, 2 headpins, 4 gold filler beads and 2 gold lever back earring hoops.
  • 2 lever back earring hoops in gold colored metal (1 cm in diameter).
  • 4 blue pearl beads (oval shaped)
  • 4 round gold filler beads (approximately 2mm to 3mm in diameter)
  • 2 gold headpins (measuring 3cm each)

Tools

  • Round nose pliers
  • Flat nose pliers

Step 1: Making the pearl beads dangle

I used freshwater pearl bead to make these blue pearl earrings DIY. The pearls are naturally not consistent in shape. While they are all approximately the same size, the shapes are not exactly consistent.

When using these sort of inconsistently shaped beads, it is important to choose the ones that are of the closest same shape for both sides of the earrings. This will ensure you earrings look the same on both side.

For these earrings, I had 2 blue pearls on each side. I choose a slightly teardrop shaped beads for the bottom pearl and a more rounded shaped beads for the top ones.

A poster of 4 images showing how to make a blue pearl earring dangle.
  1. To make the dangle, insert the gold headpin into the teardrop shaped blue pearl bead from the wider end of the pearl.
  2. Next, add a gold filler bead.
  3. Follow with the more rounded blue pearl bead.
  4. And top it with another gold filler bead.

Step 2: Attaching the pearl dangle onto the lever back earring hoop.

A poster of 2 images showing how to insert a lever back earring hoop into a handmade earring.
  1. Using the round nose plier, form a loop at the top of the pearl dangle with the excess head pin wire, but do not close the loop completely. Leave a small gap to insert the lever back hoop.
  2. Finally, insert the lever back hoop and using the round nose pliers, close the gap in the wire loop.

Repeat the same steps to make the other side of the earring to complete the handmade blue pearl earrings DIY.

Options

Pearl types

  • These handmade pearl earrings DIY can be make with any types of pearl beads. I used fresh water pearl beads, and you can also use faux pearl beads.

Metal color

  • These blue pearl earrings are set together in gold colored metal. Blue and gold make a pretty match.
  • If you are not a fan of gold, you can also make these earrings in silver color metal or even bronze metal.
  • If you choose to change the metal, make sure the lever back hoops, the headpins and the filler beads are of the same color.

Beads size and count

  • The pearl beads I used for these project come is slightly different sizes. The bottom pearls are slightly teardrop shaped and measure approximately 0.9cm long and 0.6cm wide (at its widest point). The top pearls are oval shaped and measure approximately 0.7cm long and 0.5cm wide.
  • You can always use same shaped beads, but if you are using different sized ones, it is always nicer to put the larger ones at the bottom and the smaller ones on top.
  • Also, you can add more pearl beads in you like your earrings to be longer. Just use a longer head pin that can fit all your beads in making the pearl dangle for the earrings.

Earring length

  • These earrings measure 4cm long. If you wish to make yours longer, you can always do so by adding another layer or 2 of the pearl beads.
  • You can also shorten it by using only one pearl bead on each side.

Earring hoop

  • I used gold lever back earring hoops to make these DIY blue pearl earrings. The hoops measure 1cm in diameter.
  • If you are not a fan of lever back earrings, you can always replace the hoops with earring hooks.

  • One sheet of square origami paper (measuring 10 cm by 15cm).
  • Glue

Instructions:

For easy reference, I have broken down this paper fish craft tutorial into 14 steps.

Cutting the paper

If you are using a square piece of paper to make the origami koi fish, you need to cut it into a rectangle. I used a 15cm by 15cm square sheet and cut it into 10cm by 15cm.

Options

Paper size

  • This origami koi fish is best made in a rectangle piece of paper with a ratio of 2:3. That means, the length of the vertical side of the paper should be two thirds of its horizontal length. For example, if you are using a standard origami paper measuring 15cm by 15cm, cut the paper into 15cm by 10cm.
  • This proportion will enable you to make your origami paper fish to the same size and proportion as shown in this guide.
  • You can choose to make larger or smaller fishes and it is advisable to keep the proportion of the length and width of the paper you use to the same as mentioned above.

Colors and patterns

  • This paper fish craft is best made on a double sided (colored) paper. Both sides of the paper will show on the finished fish.
  • If you prefer the fish to be in the same color use a paper with the same color on both sides. If you prefer to make the fish in dual colors as shown in this tutorial, choose a paper that is dual colored.
  • You can also make the fish in patterned paper if you like.

Easy Seed Bead Earrings Tutorial

These seed bead earrings are made using pre-made round hoops in silver metals. The hoop earrings design consist of clusters of 3mm round purple seed beads at the bottom of the hoops. These gorgeous deep purple clusters are alternated between a row of similar sized seed beads in pale moss green, forming a pretty row of seed bead clusters on each hoop. The row of seed bead clusters are ended with 4mm round antique silver beads on each side.

The finished seed bead earrings measure 3.5 cm in width and 4.25cm in length. These lovely pair of hoops are perfect for casual wear. They also make a lovely pair for any special occasion.

How to Make

Video Tutorial

Here's my video on how to make these pretty pair of seed bead earrings. And get the full list of supplies and step by step instructions right below, in the section section on this page:

Supplies

  • 2 premade hoop earrings in silver colored metal
  • 4 antique silver colored round beads
  • 20 round pearl lustre seed beads in pale moss green (3mm in diameter)
  • 66 round pearl luster seed beads in purple (3mm in diameter)
  • 66 head pins in silver metal with round heads (I used 2cm long, round back headpins, but you only need about the headpins to be 1 cm long. You can use 2cm or longer headpins and cut off the excess or get exactly 1cm headpins to make these cluster seed bead earrings)

Tools

  • Round nose pliers
  • Wire cutter
  • Flat nose pliers

Preparing the purple seed beads for the clusters

A poster of 4 images showing how to make looped bead.
  1. If you are using headpins that are longer than 1cm, cut the headpin wire to a 1cm length. Discard the excess.
  2. Next, insert one purple bead into each headpin.
  3. Holding the bead close to the end with one hand, bend the excess head pin wire to a 45 degrees angle with the other hand. If your head pin wire is hard to bend with fingers, use a flat nose plier.
  4. Next, using a round rose plier, form a loop with the bent wire. Bending the wire to a 45 degrees angle helps to ensure the loop is centered above the bead. If it is not, simply adjust (either with your fingers or with a flat nose plier) to make it centered. Try to push the end of the wire into the bead hole. Repeat the process for all the 66 purple beads.

Preparing the hoops

A poster of 2 images showing how to bend a hoop earring wire.
  1. The hoops I used for this project are simple round shape hook hoops that come with a loop on one end and a 45 degrees bent end on the other end. There is no need to use other earring hook for this project. To insert the beads into the hoop, you will need to do it though the bent end. While larger beads can be inserted through the bent wire, smaller beads like the seed beads used for this seed bead earrings will not go through. Hence, you will need to straighten the wire to allow the beads to get into the wire and the hoop.
  2. To do this, simply use a flat nose plier to flatten the bended end of the hoop. It need to be perfectly flat, suffice if it is flat enough to let the seed beads pass through.

Assembling the purple and moss green hoop earrings

  • Start by inserting one antique silver bead (the first bead) into the hoop.

  • Follow by 3 purple bead dangles.

  • And then insert a moss green bead as the spacer bead.

  • Repeat with another 3 purple bead dangle.

  • Continue the process until you have inserted 10 green beads and 11 clusters of purple beads (33 purple beads in total). At this stage, the row of green seed beads in the hoop should begin and end with a cluster of purple beads on each side.

  • To finish the first side of the seed bead earrings, insert another antique silver bead as the last bead to the end of the row of bead.

  1. Use a flat nose plier to bend the end of the hoop back to its original 45 degrees angle.
  2. As a last step, to ensure the beads do to roll out through the bent wire, try to push the silver bead out after bending the wire. If it can come out, bend the wire a bit more until the bead can no longer come out.

  • Repeat all the steps above for to make the second earring to complete the pair of seed bead earrings.

Options

  • Metal color - I used silver toned metal to make these seed bead earring. The hoops are in silver color and the head pins are also chose to match the silver color. You can easily replace the silver with gold or bronze metal.
  • Hoop Size - These earrings are made using medium sized hoops measuring 3.5cm in diameter. You can adjust the size of the hoops to make smaller or large hoop earrings, however, do take note that the size of the seed beads may also need to be adjusted to make the size of the hoops.
  • Beads color - I used a combination of purple and moss green to make these hoops. You can make them in any other different colors you like. It does not have to be a mere 2 color combination. You can use white seed bead or turquoise bead, transparent beads in seed bead sizes or even czech beads. You can even make the clusters in a multi color combination of colorful seed beads.
  • Number of beads cluster and length of the beads row - you can adjust the row of beads on these seed bead earrings to your liking. The ones on this page have a row of beads at approximately 4 to 4.5cm. If you like a longer row of beads, simply make more bead dangles and add them to the earrings. If you like shorter, you can also reduce the number of the green beads and the purple clusters accordingly.

How to wear the hoop earrings

  • To put on these bead earrings, open up the hoops.
  • Holding your earlobe on one hand, stretch it down gently. In doing this, make sure you hold your ear lobe below your earring hole.
  • Next, gently insert the bent end of the hoop earring into your earring hole. Once the wire is in, push the wire in a little more until the ends of the hoop are well hidden behind your ear.
  • Hook the ends to hold the earrings in place.
  • You can adjust the hoops further so that the beads are well positioned into a close row of clusters towards the bottom of the hoops.

How to avoid the beads from falling out

  • These beaded hoop earrings do not have any stoppers on the sides to hold the beads in place. This means the beads are not held tightly in place, but can move freely in the hoop. This is not really a problem as the beads will fall well in place once the earrings are put on (thanks to gravity).

The looped end of the hoop

  • The loop on one end of the pre made hoops prevent the beads from falling out from that end.

The bent end of the hoop earrings

  • The 90 degrees bent end on the other end of the metal hoop also prevent the beads from falling out from that end.
  • Having said that, larger beads have the tendency to be able to fall out even with the bent end, and this is especially so if the wire is bent at a lesser than 90 degrees angle.
  • In the case of the handmade beaded hoop earrings in this tutorial, if the last silver bead in each of the earring is of the exact same size as provided in this tutorial (ie 4mm) and is with a hole that is not too large, the bead should not all out of the hoop, provided the end of the hoop is bent at a 90 degree angle.
  • To be absolutely sure that the silver bead does not fall though the bend loop, try to push it out gently through it. If it is able to fall out, use a flat nosed plier to bend the bent end to a larger degree. That way, you can be sure that the beads, despite being able to move freely in the hoop, will not roll out it when the hoops are open.
